Lifecraft launched a major appeal for funds in February 2007 and since then we have succeeded in raising around £200,000 from various sources, including grants from charitable trusts, both local and national, donations from individuals, businesses, churches and colleges, support from statutory services and fundraising through events. We have been overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and are enormously grateful. We now have enough money to keep Lifeline, our telephone helpline, which was due to close in May 2007, operating until the end of March 2009.
We still need a further £20,000 to keep our services going as they are during 2008/9. Although Lifeline was saved, we had to close our weekend social club in March 2007 and we have not yet been able to open again, much to the distress of our members, for whom weekends can be a very lonely time, when other services are closed. To open again on a Saturday (which would also include drop-in counselling and the information service, as well as the social club) would need a further £19,000.
We are working hard at present to look at more sustainable funding for Lifecraft and have developed a three-year plan, which you can download from the website. If we are to survive in the longer term, we have to have more secure sources of funding. We are also trying to rebuild our reserves, in order to give ourselves some breathing space.
